Our Mission
The mission of The Hiding Place is to provide safe spaces for survivors. We are committed to serving, aiding and walking alongside survivors of domestic violence as they walk towards healing and thriving.
Established in 2021, The goal of The Hiding Place is to provide transitional housing and resources for survivors of domestic violence as they begin navigating their journey towards healing. Through The Hiding Place program, we provide aid in placing survivors in emergency and transitional safe housing, a 24/7 hotline for community members to call for aid and support, counseling; including individual crisis and trauma counseling, group counseling, community support groups, resourcing for aid; including job training, case management, financial literacy classes, transportation, job placement, etc. and advocacy; including legal, medical, etc. We also have created partnerships within the community to aid our clients with other forms of services that they may require, including aid in recovery of alcohol and/or drugs, mental health, medical, parenting classes, etc.
This past year (2024), The Hiding Place served over 300 survivors and over 100 children. For the year of 2025, our goal is to double our 2024 impact by serving over 450 clients and over 200 children.
Within Pickens County, SC reports that there are over 2,000 domestic violence victims per year. When domestic violence survivors are served, families are served. The Hiding Place is the only domestic violence program of its kind in Pickens County and the program is infused with care beyond the norm. Our team is eager to stand out and provide activities that are not normally provided in the Upstate, and currently, not provided at all in Pickens County by any other organization. We take great pride in our organization’s mindset and heart for individualized care within our community. Leaning into our mission, we are committed to creating safe spaces for survivors and through art therapy sessions and weekly support group, we are seeing those safe spaces forming. With that being said, The Hiding Place staff works eagerly and tirelessly to provide the best possible individualized care for each client served. When we look at the survivor, we also look at those who are being impacted by the abuse alongside her or him. Pickens County’s domestic violence statistics can be lowered with the help of The Hiding Place program, as we walk alongside survivors, help break chains of generational cycles and provide prevention and advocacy within the community. Domestic violence is not going to go away on its own. We must shine a light on the darkness that so many families endure every minute.
The Hiding Place program creates safety and opportunity for disenfranchised populations to continue their education and develop happier and healthier lives. Services that improve the community and address issues like safety, homelessness and hunger, include crisis and trauma counseling, legal aid, financial literacy, medical advocacy, transportation services and job readiness and placement.
